Charles Bell was born in Tulsa, OK. He studied at the University of Oklahoma and then served two years in the U.S. Navy. After his time in the service, he moved to New York City and opened his own art studio. He created a substantial body of work in photorealism; vintage toys were his images of choice. His art remains highly collectible, especially his series depicting glass marbles.
