Corneille, Dutch (1922 - 2010)

Corneille was born Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo, on July 3, 1922, in Liège, Belgium. He died on September 5, 2010, in Auvers-sur-Oise, France. He was a prolific artist and a poet. He studied at the Academy of Art in Amsterdam.
Corneille was a founding member of a modern experimental art group in Holland called Experimentele Groep which was active in 1948 and 1949. He was also a member of CoBrA, an avant-garde European group of artists who were active from 1948 to 1951. The name CoBrA represents the initials of the cities from which the artists came: Co for Copenhagen, Br for Brussels, and A for Amsterdam. The unifying theme of the art movement was freedom of color and form.
