William Wendt was born in 1865, in Bentzen, Kingdom of Prussia (now Germany.)
He died in 1946, in Laguna Beach, California.
He is listed in Edan Milton Hughes’ art reference book titled Artists in California, 1786-1940.
William Wendt immigrated to the United States in 1880, and initially settled in Chicago where he worked as an artist.
He later moved to Southern California. In 1911, William Wendt became the first president of the California Art Club. His professional memberships also included; the American Federation of Arts; Chicago Society of Artists; Laguna Beach Art Association; National Academy; and the National Arts Club of New York.
